The Military has fitness standards that are based around a minimum of equipment, such that PT (physical training, which is what you’re about to do) can be done anywhere. The only thing you’ll need is a chin-up bar.
You should ‘max out’ with a partner who will check your form like a hawk. It’s super easy to get high numbers on calisthenics by cheating form. That means you have no idea whether you are making progress or not in terms of strength - or whether your form is just getting worse and worse.
Push-ups, combined with chin-ups, cover about 95% of upper body strength.
Max out to figure out where you are in the standards, but don’t worry if you are too low. This just gets a barometer.
